The catechetical, spiritual, service and social development of the young people of our parish attending high school are served by the Rt. 59 Youth Ministry. This ministry meets on selected Mondays of the month from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the KSU Newman Center. In addition, there are various other social and service activities during the year. Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (O.C.I.A.)
O.C.I.A. (formerly R.C.I.A.) is the process through which a person becomes a full member of the Roman Catholic Church. Participants, their sponsors, and catechists meet weekly from fall through Easter, 7:00-8:30pm in Tobin Hall, focusing on Catholic teaching and history as well as formation of the individual's life within the Catholic community. Team members involved in this ministry include catechists and parish sponsors.
Retreats and Special Programs
Preparation for First Eucharist and Confirmation typically include weekend retreats and meetings for candidates and parents. There may also be formation sessions of general interest to parishioners during the day or evening, especially during Lent or Advent. These will be noted in the weekly bulletin.
Baptism Preparation
Parents anticipating the arrival of their infant, those who have recently celebrated the birth or adoption of their child, and those who have children under the age of 7 whom they wish to be baptized, must first attend a preparation session prior to arranging celebration of the sacrament. Please contact Eileen Edwards in the parish office at (330)296-6434 for more information and to register for the class session.
Liturgical Workshops and Training
At various times through the year, the parish conducts sessions to help prepare lectors, servers, and others who serve the church. These sessions are announced in the weekly bulletin.
